Christopher Columbus Essay Contest The DAR sponsors this contest with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) in honor of Christopher Columbus. Each academic year, an essay topic is chosen and contest instructions are made available to students. xThe contest is open to students in grades 9-12. xEssays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of materials.
Each entry will be assigned a number by the Essay Contest Chair. The assigned number will be placed on the title page and page 1 of the essay. The title page will then be detached and retained by the Essay Contest Chair. The judges will be given the essays bearing only the assigned numbers.
